Privacy Policy

1. Information we collect

Account information: display name, email address, sign-in method.

Scans and usage: barcodes you scan, your scan history (used for cross-device sync), lists, menus, saves and follows.

Content you submit: product photos and information, corrections, reviews, recipes.

Receipts: receipt images you choose to scan and the merchant, item and price details read from them.

Dietary preferences and restrictions: sensitivities you choose to enter (such as gluten, chili, pork, halal), used only to generate your personalized alerts.

Subscription status: membership status via Apple and our subscription-management provider. We never receive your full payment card details.

Device and log information: device model, OS version, language, crash and performance logs, used to keep the Service running.

2. How we use it

To provide the core features: barcode and photo recognition, nutrition and additive analysis, reviews and recipes, lists and menus, receipt checking, cross-device sync.

To personalize: alerts and summaries based on the restrictions and household details you enter.

To build the catalogue: product photos and information you submit join the public product catalogue (see Section 5).

To operate safely: customer support, abuse and fraud prevention, enforcing fair-use limits, improving the Service.

We do not sell your personal information, and there is no third-party advertising in the Service.

3. AI processing

Photo recognition and receipt decoding are performed with AI: your photos are transmitted to our AI service providers to extract text and produce the analysis. These photos are used only to deliver those features and check their quality, never to advertise to you.

4. Sharing

Service providers: vendors for cloud hosting, authentication, subscription management and AI processing handle data only as needed to serve us, under contract.

Apple: subscription purchases are processed by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.

Legal: we may disclose information where required by law or necessary to protect users and the Service.

Business transfers: in a merger, acquisition or asset sale your information may transfer as part of the assets; we will give notice of material changes.

5. What is public

The product catalogue is public: product photos, product information and corrections you submit are shown to all users, without attribution.

Reviews, public recipes and public lists are shown publicly with your display name and avatar. Your scan history, receipts and restriction settings are never public.

6. Family households

In a family household, the family menu and family lists are visible and editable by members; the household's restriction settings are shared within the group so any member's scan can raise the right alert. The Organizer can see the member list and manage seats. Your personal scan history is not shared with family members.

7. Retention, export and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can use Export My Data in the app to receive your lists, contributions and scan history as a zip sent to your sign-in email.

When you delete your account we delete or anonymize personal data linked to you; product photos and information already in the public catalogue, and corrections others rely on, may be retained in de-identified form.

8. Security

We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures (encryption in transit, access controls), but no system is perfectly secure.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

10. Your rights

You can access, correct, export or delete your data at any time — mostly right in the app, or by emailing support@marketscan.app. Depending on where you live (for example under the California CCPA or the EU GDPR) you may have additional rights; use the same address to exercise them.
